Freedom – to the balloon, or to that which it entraps?

A balloon is not a piece of rubber filled with air; it is a closed space filled with virtually infinite numbers of molecules, atoms, subatomic particles, photons and what not, all of them with their own respective direction and momentum, ‘unmindful’ of the direction and momentum of others around. It is all chaos, and we want to think it is the balloon that matters? 🙂 Happy Independence Day!

    • Thanks! I’d posted this as a reply to someone over fb, then, on an impulse thought I could blog it as well. 🙂

      And actually, the analogy is very crude. On a bit further scrutiny, the congruence with the real thing – Nation State – breaks down. E.g., if everything is indeed so chaotic and random, and that this randomness cancels out each others’ momentum, why are there so many balloons with so many apparently different attributes? 🙂

    • You see, McCain seems to think that the oil would pay off the Military debt. Well, It ha1s;#82n7&t even though we are paying more for gas?So since you want low taxes should we BORROW OUR WAY OUT OF DEBT?400 billion dollars for Freddie & Fannie Mae. But you don’t want to pay 3% more of your taxes to your OWN COUNTRY! Oh, and the lazy that you talk about 54% of the welfare role is white, 32% black, 18% herspanics.

  4. Thanks, Rohith! I can do that, but it won’t be as spontaneous as this. And honestly, of late I’ve started feeling that it is only highly emotive subjects that should be dealt with in poetry. To me this subject is emotive, but not as much. And at this point, I just remembered recommending to you Ayn Rand’s ‘Anthem’. Unlike her other works, you’re likely to like that one. It is one of the rare displays of her ability to be evocative. 🙂 But perhaps again, without having been exposed to the kind of communism she might have been exposed to, the pain she meant to convey might come across as exaggerated/fake. That’s a brilliant take on clash of individuality with obligation of loyalty to a group. Though I must also add that while tagging this post with ‘Ayn Rand’ it was not Anthem that I was thinking of per se. My post is more from sociological/ideological perspective, whereas, Anthem is from psychological perspective. I take a detached look. She takes an intensely personal look. It’s like I’ve made a mention of ‘atoms’, she actually traces the trajectory of two such atoms. 🙂 Best part is: it’s legally available for free and is very, very short. Can be finished in 2 hours. 🙂
